Observations of a Bank Independent Intern

Going to school out of state and having a lot of small town passion, I never miss an opportunity to interject a fun fact about my hometown in a conversation. “Did you know that Tuscumbia is the birthplace of Helen Keller?” or “Oh! This song was recorded in Muscle Shoals!”  People ask me where I got the cute top I am wearing, and I say it’s from a local shop in my hometown.

When my school friends come to visit, I take it upon myself to be their personal Shoals tour guide—visiting every downtown restaurant to give them a taste of the area.  They leave agreeing with me that we may not be a big town, but we have a lot to offer. This past summer, I had the opportunity to be an intern in my hometown at Bank Independent--- another boast-worthy entity from the Shoals.

At the core of this flourishing community are small businesses, and behind small businesses stands Bank Independent. Whether your business is celebrating its 50th anniversary or just getting off the ground, our Business Bankers are here to customize a banking plan to fit your business’ needs. Like a doctor who makes house calls, your business banker comes to you because they understand that your time is valuable.

Their personalized service doesn’t stop after you are set up, either.  They are available for continued training support, whether that’s onsite or by phone.  During my internship at Bank Independent, I sat behind a few of our Business Bankers, and I can definitely attest to this.  I can also ensure you that they provide this service eagerly and with a smile!  Excellent customer service is second nature to them and in every part of their daily routine, which I learned is a characteristic of all Bank Independent employees.

With all the new technology on the market—EMV or “chip” cards, Apple Pay, Bluetooth and wireless payment terminals—it can be challenging to keep up.  Never fear! When new technology comes out on the market, Bank Independent’s Business Bankers are right there to learn the ins and outs of it so they can help you better understand it and support your ever-changing needs.

Family-owned and operated since 1947, Bank Independent is your local bank supporting local businesses because we understand that when your business grows and thrives, the entire community benefits—a community that I am proud to say I am from and to share with my friends!
