Bank Independent marked a significant milestone in its ongoing commitment to the communities it serves with a ribbon cutting on Thursday, April 24, celebrating the grand opening of its newly rebuilt Sales Office on the Beltline in Decatur. While the location has long been a trusted part of the Decatur landscape, the completely redesigned building represents a renewed investment in the city and the people who call it home.
“This is a rebirth of our presence in Decatur,” said Macke Mauldin, President of Bank Independent. “We’re not just rebuilding a structure—we’re reinforcing a promise that we are here to stay, built to serve.”
The 4,500-square-foot facility was constructed on the site of the previous Bank Independent office, which was demolished to make way for a purpose-built, modern space. Half of the building functions as a full-service Sales Office, while the other half houses the bank’s local lending team—supporting continued growth and providing personalized service to the Decatur community.
“This is more than just a building. It’s a visible reminder of our values and our vision,” added Rick Wardlaw, CEO of Bank Independent. “While others shrink their footprint or reduce investments, we’re doubling down—on service, on people, and on our communities.”
Designed in Bank Independent’s signature Colonial Williamsburg style, the building combines timeless charm with thoughtfully designed interiors that prioritize both comfort and operational efficiency.
The project was a collaborative effort led by Lee Builders, Inc. as General Contractor. The professional team also included:
- Nola VanPeursem Architects – Architect
- Mechanical Design Services – Mechanical Engineer
- Shoals Engineering – Electrical Engineer
- Bostick Landscape Architects – Landscape Architect
- PR Matthewson and Associates Engineers – Structural Engineer
- Building and Earth – Geotechnical Engineer
- Pugh Wright McAnally – Civil Engineer
With more than 33 locations across North Alabama, Bank Independent continues to distinguish itself in a highly competitive industry by maintaining a steadfast focus on service, integrity, and community.
“Service is our thing,” said Bob Thompson, Area President for Morgan County. “Without service, we’re just another bank. I hope this building stands as a testament that we are here to stay. We are built to serve—not to sell—and that defines our purpose for both our team members and the communities we serve.”
The event also featured remarks from Crystal Brown, President and CEO of the Decatur-Morgan County Chamber of Commerce:
“It is my privilege to welcome Bank Independent and the entire team to this beautiful, beautiful building. I’ve watched it rise from the ground, wondering each day, ‘When is it going to open?’ And now it has—and it’s truly exciting. This building represents the growth and investment Bank Independent continues to bring to Decatur. Your commitment to serving people and businesses in this area is second to none. You’ve been outstanding community partners, and it’s a privilege to walk alongside you.”
The Decatur Beltline Sales Office is open, and Sales Manager NaToshia Garrison and her team are ready to serve customers with the care, connection, and community focus that have long defined Bank Independent.
