Bank Independent was honored to donate $2,000 to the American Legion Post #11 to help support their mission of honoring and assisting local veterans.
The organization provides an Honor Guard for veteran burial services across Lauderdale County, and in conjunction with other Legion Posts in Colbert, Franklin, and other neighboring counties. Services include rifle, bugle, and flag presentations to family members.
“The last thing a veteran gets is that American flag draped over their coffin,” said Mary Day Smith, Adjutant of the American Legion Post #11. “That’s the final respect they receive and that’s why we try to keep our Honor Guard alive. We want to do our best to provide that honor for every veteran and their family.”
Along with the opportunity to buy more spare burial flags, the donation will allow the American Legion to buy a second “bugle box” enabling the Honor Guard to attend multiple burial presentations at one time.
“As our nation prepares to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary, supporting the American Legion Post #11 is a meaningful way for Bank Independent to honor the men and women who have served and sacrificed for our freedoms,” said Macke Mauldin, CEO of Bank Independent. “We are grateful for the Legion’s commitment to ensuring local veterans and their families receive the dignity, recognition, and respect they deserve.”
